Scott and Jamie McCauley have established the Lindsay Randolph Excellence in Nursing Scholarship at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ to honor the life-saving care of Lindsay Randolph, a nurse who helped Scott McCauley during a critical medical emergency.
The McCauleys first met Randolph on March 11, 2023, when Scott was being treated in Christus St. Elizabeth's Emergency Room. Scott was experiencing dangerously low blood pressure, and he vividly recalls asking Randolph to “do something” as he struggled with the sensation. Randolph’s quick thinking and compassionate care stabilized Scott, and she personally escorted him to the ICU. Randolph also visited Scott in ICU to ensure his continued improvement.
“Lindsay’s actions in the emergency room saved my life,” McCauley said. “She cared for me, got me stable, and then escorted me to ICU. She visited me in ICU to make sure I was improving.”
Since that initial meeting, the McCauleys have met Randolph a couple of additional times, including in June 2023 when a similar health episode sent Scott to the ER once more. They also saw her in early 2024 during a visit to the ER with Jamie’s mother. Each encounter reaffirmed the McCauleys’ admiration for Randolph and inspired them to create the endowed scholarship in her honor.
“Jamie and I believe that the world can use more nurses like Lindsay,” McCauley said. “We’ve been very impressed by our interactions with nurses throughout our lives—whether it was the nurse who cared for our youngest daughter in the NICU, the nurse who assisted in the delivery of our four grandchildren, the nurses who cared for Jamie’s father during his passing, and of course, Lindsay.”
The Lindsay Randolph Excellence in Nursing Scholarship will benefit students in the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ. The scholarship will be awarded to full-time undergraduate and graduate nursing students who meet specific academic criteria, including a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must be enrolled full-time unless they are participating in approved clinicals, internships, or are in their final semester of study.
Recipients of the scholarship will also be asked to write a note to Lindsay Randolph, sharing how the scholarship has impacted their educational journey, in addition to submitting an annual thank-you letter to the donors.
This gift is an irrevocable donation to the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Foundation and is designed to support future generations of nurses who embody the same dedication and excellence demonstrated by Lindsay Randolph.
