Computer science scholarship announced in honor of Anne Shepherd Nelson

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ has established a new endowed scholarship in honor of Anne Shepherd Nelson, a beloved educator and community leader who dedicated her life to teaching and cultural exchange. The Anne Shepherd Nelson Scholarship in Computer Science will support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees through the Department of Computer Science. Students Over Computer

The scholarship was made possible by an irrevocable gift from Dr. John L. Nelson, husband of Anne Shepherd Nelson, and will be managed by the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Foundation.

Anne Shepherd Nelson, a graduate of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ in 1962, spent over three decades in education, teaching across the globe in diverse settings, from the streets of Chicago to international schools in Lebanon and Iran. She was recognized for her outstanding teaching in subjects like geometry, algebra, calculus, and computer science, as well as her ability to inspire students to work hard to achieve their goals.

In addition to her career in education, Anne was deeply involved in her community, participating in a number of local charities and organizations such as the Texas Gulf Historical Society, the Neches River Festival, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. She was also a passionate advocate for environmental issues, serving as a member of the Sierra Club.

The scholarship will be available to full-time students who are pursuing degrees in computer science at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, with exceptions made for students participating in internships or co-op programs. Recipients will be eligible to renew the scholarship for up to eight academic semesters at the undergraduate level or six semesters at the graduate level, as long as they continue to meet the scholarship’s criteria.

The Anne Shepherd Nelson Scholarship is part of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’s ongoing commitment to providing financial support to talented students and fostering excellence in academic disciplines.
